  Email Password Tips

TOP TIPS TO KEEP YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT SAFE
  • Don’t use the same password for your email account that you use for any other account. This   means not using the same password you are using for your facebook or online banking       account for example. Use a unique password for your email account.
  • Do change your email password regularly and don't re-use old passwords, always set up and use a new one.
  • Do be careful which emails you open. Scam emails can appear to come from someone you know so don't click on any link that looks suspicious.
  • Do be skeptical. If something seems too good to be true it probably is. You’ve just own a million dollars but you need to respond immediately to claim your prize? Don’t open the email, click delete.
  • Don’t open attachments unless you are 100% sure they are coming from a reliable source and are legitimate. If in doubt delete the email and contact the person who sent it to confirm it is really from them.
  • Do keep your software and anti-virus up to date.
  • Don't include sensitive information such as credit card details or passwords in emails.

HOW TO CHOOSE A SAFE EMAIL PASSWORD

  • Don’t choose a recognizable dictionary word.
  • Don’t use information that can easily be guessed from public information about you such as your birthday, pet’s name etc.
  • Do include spaces, capital letters, punctuation and numbers in your password.
  • The longer your password is the harder it will be for a hacker to try to guess.
