Geoff and Emma Judd are the owners of Form Concepts. Their building company completes a variety of work with a focus on upmarket housing in Auckland. We asked Emma about their decision to create new branding for their building company and the results it has had on their business.
Before
Our business card and marketing material was really homemade looking. We’d just been doing it ourselves at home on the computer. People would also ask Geoff if he had a website and he’d have to say no, then the reaction from the client would be ‘oh..’ because I think people expect a business to have a website these days.
The Process
Emma and Geoff weren’t sure how they wanted their new brand to look so we had a discussion with them to get a better feel for their business. We discovered they mainly focus on villa restoration and renovation in upmarket areas so the new branding had to reflect the sophisticated nature of their clientele and projects. We asked Emma and Geoff to send us examples of any other logos they had seen that they liked to give us a feel for the direction to take. We then went about designing a logo to suit their business that was simple and elegant. We presented Emma and Geoff with several options. They liked some aspects of each design so we took their feedback along with our own ideas and came up with some more examples focusing on grey, white and black. Emma then asked to introduce a little colour into the logo and suggested a dark red. We gradually refined the design until we got exactly what they wanted. The new logo was then used in letterheads and a new business card design. Colours and the feel of the logo were also incorporated into their new website which we also designed for them creating a seamless look from logo to business card to letterhead to website to help effectively brand their business in the marketplace and make it recognisable. This branding was also extended into signage to put up at building sites and signage to go on the company van so they can advertise their business when they are driving around Auckland.
The Result
For both of us it’s made us feel more professional and confident about sending out invoices and estimations. We now know everything looks really good and that we are sending out the best we can. For example the other day Geoff went to a big meeting and I printed off the estimation with the new letterhead and contract and put it all in a nice black folder and attached our new business card. It looked really good.
We’ve had so many compliments about the new branding already and we’ve only just started using it. The last three estimations we’ve done when Geoff has gone to client meetings the clients have commented on how efficient they look and that they love the look. The new branding has made us proud of what we do.
